In the Japanese language, the meaning of adjectives is emphasized when the segments are lengthened. The purpose of this research project was to discover which segments are lengthened to emphasize the meaning of adjectives. A survey with two existing adjectives and four imaginary adjectives was conducted on 50 native Japanese speakers in the US and Japan. Certain findings were common to almost all of the participants. Significant findings were discovered from a few of the participants of the survey due to the rarity of their results.

日本語の形容詞において、分節が長く伸ばされることにより意味が強調される。この研究の目的は、形容詞の意味が強調される場合、どの分節が伸ばされるかを発見することにある。研究方法として、2つの実在する形容詞と4つの架空の形容詞でアンケート調査を行った。アンケート調査は、アメリカ、または日本に在住する50人の日本語の母語話者を対象とした。一部のアンケート調査の分析結果は、ほとんどすべての参加者に共通した。しかし、ある少数の参加者から、重要な結果が発見された。
