- Recycling Techniques as Diesel Fuel of Waste Plastic Decomposition Oil Containing Automobile Shredder Residue

The Japanese law for automobile recycling was established in 2005. Recently, reduction of automobile shredder residue which is called ASR is expected and the recycling techniques for several automobile plastics are developed. However, the flexible polyurethane foam(FPF)of thermosetting resin used for seat cushion and roof lining, sound absorption materials cannot be recycled easily. Hence, almost FPF are entered in ASR, the quantities are enormous. The FPF has low density and occupies more than 50 vol% in ASR.On the basis of the above problem, the pyrolysis behavior of FPF in vegetable oil was confirmed to grope for reasonable recycling technique of FPF in this study. However, FPF decomposition oil has high kinematic viscosity for diesel fuel. On the other hand, other waste plastic decomposition oil(WPDO)which made from polypropylene and polyethylene has low kinematic viscosity. Therefore, this study was made on the blended fuel of FPF decomposition oil and WPDO decomposition oil for diesel engines.In this paper, FPF decomposition process is declared and FPF decomposition oil was made from rapeseed oil and FPF. And then it was blended with WPDO in order to improve the properties of it. FPF mixing ratios were selected 5%, 10% and 20% in volume. Then the density and kinematic viscosity of FPF and WPDO blended fuels were measured. It can be seen that the FPF addition can improve the properties of WPDO. Finally, FPF blended fuels were burned in a conventional 219-cc diesel engine. It was found that FPF blended fuels can burn in the general diesel engine without troubles. Although the total hydro carbon(THC)and carbon monoxide(CO)are increased, particle matter(PM)and nitrogen oxides(NOx)in the exhaust gas of FPF blended fuels were reduced from the gas oil. Moreover, the brake specific fuel consumption(BSFC)of FPF blended fuels were almost the same with gas oil.
