In the late of the Former Han dynasty, System of Family expanded its reign. After having had experienced a full of ups and downs in his career at the court, Wang Mang, with the support from the distinguished Wang Family, was promoted to Ta-Si-Ma(大司馬), one of the most important positions at that time. He seized power in the central government, and tried to build up the autocratic regime. In the process of that, he climinated leading members of Wang Family including his own sons. He also tried to abolish latifundism, on which the power of the government's high officials is based. Wang Mang climbed the ladder at the court from acting prince to emperor's regent, then to temporary emperor, then to prince and finally to emperor. After that, he overthrew the Han dynasty and established the Xin(新) dynasty. Although he overthrew the Han dynasty, his rules are in line with the practices of the Han dynasty. The contradiction eventually led to the end of the X in dynasty.
