The aim of this paper is to reconsider the meaning of maxim (Maxime) in Kant’s ethical theory and shed light on its formation process. The results of this study are as follows: on one hand, the maxims of indivudual or his/her subjective principles of action are the only object of moral examination based on categorical imperative. On the other hand, the maxims that Kant exemplifies in his works contain or accompany a lot of narrrative elements. From the viewpoint of the philosophical development of Kant, the formation of his so called maxim ethics (Maximenethik) and the begining of the lecture on anthropology, which also involves various narrrative elements, are thought simultaneously. In addition, according to some recent studies on Kant’s maxim ethics, the maxims of indivudual are built or rebuilt by the reflective power of judgment.
