Since Europeans discovered the New World, a lot of travelers' tales have been written. The key theme of the travels is the encounter between Europeans and non-European others. However, in reality, these should be considered only mock encounters. According to E. Said, the non-European other, of which the noble savage myth is very typical, is only a European invention. The actual world is not filled with friendly natives like Friday in the Robinson Crusoe story. The world is filled with hostile natives. There is misunderstanding and violence everywhere. Accordingly, the journey that we should think about today is not a harmonious one like Robinson Crusoe's experience. Rather, it will be a journey of no return''such as Kurtz's experience. This essay attempts to make known another encounter between Europeans and non-European others through a post-colonial interpretation of Heart of Darkness (1899) by Joseph Conrad.
