Abstract
type:text
Because the Tokyo Olympic & Paralympic Games are to be held in 2020, more and moreforeign tourists are expected to visit Japan. The English signs in Japan’s popular tourist sites haveto be increased in number and improved in quality so that the tourists will be able to enjoy fruitfuland profitable trips to those sites.Following Fukushima (2016.1), (2016.7), (2017.1) and (2017.7), this paper, as a case study, examines the English signs found on signs in the popular tourist sites, such as the Nijou-jou [-castle],the Enryaku-ji [-temple], Ama-no-hashidate [sandbar], and Tottori-sakyuu (sand dunes). The signs discussed here are also those which indicate the general summarized informationabout these sites. If there are no such signs or if descriptions on such signs are thought to beinadequate, the present writer’s suggestions will be added. The methods of writing the explanatory notes and Japanese names of the places, persons, orthings will in principle follow Fukushima (2015.7), (2015.9), (2016.7) and (2017.1).
