各種漢方製剤と西洋薬との併用では, ステロイド剤の場合がもっとも多く, 併用によりステロイド剤の使用量が減少すると同時に, その副作用が軽減される。また難治性の疾患にも, 漢方製剤との併用が西洋薬の効能増強と同時に副作用が軽減される臨床例が数多く報告されている。漢方製剤と西洋薬とを併用することにより, 相互の欠点を補ない, 相乗的な効果をあげることは中国における「中西医合作」の初歩的な成果といえる。

Recently western drugs have been sometimes taken with Chinese medicines to expect their protective effect on toxic side effects of the drugs. In the case of steroidal medicaments, the effect combined with Chinese medicines frequently results in decrease in their dose and diminishing the side effects. The combined effect has also applied to a remedy for intractable diseases, and can be expected to bring on further new protective and potential effects.
