Abstract

This study attempts to clarify economic factors in determining foreign direct investment (FDI) flows and its effects to the home market of the receiving countries. The ownership, internalization and location were identified as the economic factors. And it became to be clear that raising real wages, improving economic welfare and external economies was brought as the result of FDI. General consideration can provide the same economic factors and the effects in the hotel industry. The statistics of FDI published by Japanese government seemed to be difficult to analyze FDI in the hotel industry internationally or in sectors because of lacks of its resources. But general consideration helps to understand an experience of Japan.
