Description

Scholars who study the phenomena of transnational dissemination of cultural products often focus on media products such as TV programs and pop music while they tend to overlook the cultural products such as food and fashion which are not articulated in simple statistical data. In this article, Japanese food as a cultural product consumed in the Thai society is discussed by the qualitative approach. The history of popularization of Japanese food in the Thai society after the WWII, the world phenomena of the Japanese food as the“ healthy diet”, and the virtuous cycle of the popularization of Japanese cultural products including food are discussed with the basic concepts of globalization and localization in the study of cultural dissemination, which presents the model of the mechanism of the popularity of Japanese food in Thailand.
