Abstract

The instruction manual for teachers using Shin Nihongo no Kiso II, teaching material for beginner students of the Japanese language (published By Three-ei Corporation), indicates a total of 19 expressions and sentence patterns that are confusing to students. Of these, five relate to the so-called function words as referred to in Japanese language education. This paper analyzes and discusses teaching methods for "…youni", and "…tameni", which require particular instruction as synonyms.
