Description
type:論文(Article)
Anisotropic hydrogels were synthesized by radical polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide in the liquid crystallineaqueous colloids of fluortetrasilicic mica (FTSM) nanosheets. As the concentration of FTSM and/or chemicalcrosslinker (N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide) increased, the swelling degree at equilibrium decreased, while the gelsbecame more elastic but more brittle. The gels synthesized in a thin glass capillary showed unilateral orientation ofthe optical axis over whole the gel domain (several cm)due to concentrically aligned nanosheets in the cylindrical gel.Birefringence index △n increased as the nanosheet concentration increased. The diameter of the capillary and thelateral size of the nanosheets also affected △n. Due to the anisotropy in the structure of the hybrid gels, the gels alsoshowed anisotropy in thermally-induced volume phase transition at around 34℃ upon increasing the temperature. The degree of shrinkage as well as its anisotropy basically decreased as the content of FTSM increased.
