A comparison was made of the cumulative grade point average (GPA) and the pass/fail results in national certification examinations (national exams) in the relevant fields of 48 students who graduated in 20XX with a major in B from Department A of Teikyo Heisei University(THU). The results showed that it was not necessarily students with high cumulative GPAs who passed the national exams, or students with low cumulative GPAs who failed them. We therefore quantitatively investigated a new method of ranking that differs from ranking by cumulative GPA, one in which high-ranking students would be the ones who passed the national exams and low-ranking students the ones who failed them. As a result, we were able to establish a method that creates a ranking of subjects that were key to passing national exams. This suggests that it may be possible to improve the pass rate in national exams by adopting national exam instructional measures based on this subject ranking for the other Departments of THU.
