地球規模の環境問題の解決は, 今日国際社会の命題である.このような状況の中で, 世界的にみて各国が設置している各種の自然保護地域は, 地球レベルの自然環境保全に多大な貢献をしていると考える.本研究では, 自然保護地域を国立公園と国立公園以外の自然保護地域に分けて, 各国の設置状況を求めた.研究は収集した文献の分析調査を中心に, 国際自然保護連合に登録されているリスト, アメリカ合衆国内務省国立公園局公開の資料へインターネットによるアクセスで得た資料分析などで行った.国立公園に関しては, 140カ国が設置し, その総数は1, 582公園である.国立公園の総面積は, 3, 358, 169km^2である.国立公園の普及を見ると, 1800年代はアメリカ合衆国, オーストラリア, カナダ, ニュージーランドの4カ国のみであった.アフリカとヨーロッパは1900年代初頭から, 南アメリカが1910年代から, アジアとCIS諸国が1930年代から普及という地域的特徴がある.なお, 第2次世界大戦後に国立公園を創設した国が94カ国を占め, 1945年以後各国に国立公園制度が急速に普及したことがわかる.国立公園の名称は, 各国で使用されているが, 国情により公園の性格は一致していない.国立公園以外の自然保護地域に関しては, 152カ国が設置していて, その総数は7, 994カ所である.各国に様々な自然保護地域があり, 名称を基に目的を区分すると8種類になる.国際自然保護連合の類型区分では, カテゴリーIVの自然管理保護地域/野生生物保護区が3, 764カ所, 全体の47%を占めて最も多いのが特徴である.各地域から代表的な国として, アメリカ合衆国, オーストラリア, ケニア, フィンランド, ボリビア, タイの6カ国を選定し, 国別に自然保護地域の設置数と

The purpose of this study is to describe designation of national parks and nature reservation areas in the all countries of the world. The study method executed to analyze large literature and materials on nationl parks and protected areas. The results are as follows. 1) There are 1, 582 national parks in 140 countries. 2) The total areas of national park are 3, 358, 168 square kilometers. 3) In the 1800's, four countries established national park which are United States of America (U.S.A.), Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Africa and Europe began to designation since the opening years of the 1900's and the countries in Asia authorized since the 1930's. National parks have established very rapidly since the 1945 of post war. 4) There are 7, 994 nature reservation areas which are located in 152 countries. 5) Nature reservation areas are classified into five management categories by IUCN; (1) Strict Nature Reserve/Scientific Reserve (Category I), (2) Nationl Park (Category II), (3) Natural Monument/Natural Landmark (Category III), (4) Managed Nature Reserve/Wildlife Sanctuary (Category IV), (5) Protected Landscapes and Seascapes (Category V). Out of 7, 994 protected areas, there are 3, 764 category IV (47.1%), 2, 159 Category V (27.0%), 1, 391 Category I (17.4%), 448 Category II (5.6%) and 232 Category III (2.9%). 6) We investigated the growth of the world coverage of protected areas in U.S.A., Australia, Kenya, Finland, Bolivia and Thailand.
