Description
Over a hundred towns called ''Fumoto'' were founded or get constructed in the early stage of the Edo Period. However, we have not yet discovered the general conceptions employed in planning or design of these settlements. This paper reports that we discovered in two historical documents dated 1665 in Shimazu House, some basic ideas which suggest that these settlements may have been based upon this idea named the ''Fu-Sui'' system, a determination system of living place which was originally developed in China.
