The purpose of this paper is to make clear the contents of the lecture of pedagogy which was held at Keio Gizyuku of a special school period. In this period, Teiichi Kawai and Suematsu Inagaki mainly got a lecture in pedagogy. Therefore, I specifically investigated their understanding of pedagogy in this paper. From the results of investigation, it became clear that they had been strongly influenced by the German pedagogy. The lecture of pedagogy, which was held at Keio Gizyuku of a special school period, was therefore likely to introduce the theory of the German pedagogy. In addition, I investigated the revision of the system of the department of literature and the employment of its graduates. From the investigation, the number of students in the department of literature is less than the number of students in other departments, but the education in the department of literature seemed to be high quality. It found that the murturing of talented people in a special school period led the development of Keio University.
