Description

Powder Metallurgy (P/M) process is widely used for complex shaped parts, porous parts and materials which are hard to be made by conventional ingot metallurgy. P/M parts of copper alloy are produced as parts of bearing, but the vacuum or atmosphere control furnace is necessary to prevent oxidation in bronze powder metallurgy. To develop P/M process for bronze using a general electric furnace and paraffin as binder, process parameters (paraffin content, debinding and sinterring temperature, etc) are determined experimentally. In conclusion, paraffin content is 8%, debinding is done at 250℃ for 3Hr, sintering is done at 750℃ for 4Hr. This process is practicable at elementary, junior high schools, or even at home, and the product has sufficient strength as industrial crafts and metallic gloss.
