説明
The undergraduate curriculum at SUNY Stony Brook consists of two elements : the study of general subjects, and the study of the student's chosen major. The former consists of a set corpus of subjects prescribed by the college of arts and sciences, which students throughout the university are required to follow. The latter depend on individual choice, and vary from department to department. This system has two defining factors. The first is that students may choose their major after matriculation. The second is that the students are encouraged to study non-departmental electives, avoiding too much concentration in one specific field. Along with these factors, the structured curriculum of each major, the incorporation of research into learning, and the active use of standardized tests make the education at Stony Brook effective.
