In females, the menstrual cycle consists of the follicular and luteal phases until menopause, with post adolescent changes in the levels of female hormones such as estrogen and progesterone, which are secreted in the ovary. In this study, we investigated the influence of 75% HRmax endurance exercise with a treadmill on menstrual-cycle conditioning. The subjects were 9 healthy, female university students. Prior to this study, its purpose and experimental contents were explained, and informed consent was obtained. The mean difference in the basal body temperature between the follicular and luteal phases was 0.85 . The basal body temperature showed a diphasic pattern, consisting of low and high body temperature phases. With respect to changes in the amylase level evaluated using an oxidative stress marker, there was no marked difference at rest. However, after exercise, the amylase level increased in the luteal phase, whereas it decreased in the follicular phase. In the follicular phase, the rating of perceived exertion was higher than in the luteal phase. This was because the exercise load in the follicular phase was 2 km/hour greater than in the luteal phase, resulting from heart-rate-based loading. There was a significant difference in the physiological function between the follicular and luteal phases, suggesting that 75% HRmax endurance exercise influences menstrual-cycle conditioning.
