- Effect of Nozzle Orifice Configuration on Smoke in a DI Diesel Engine
Search this article
Description
The effects of nozzle orifice size and configuration on smoke emission were examined experimentally in a turbocharged DI diesel engine. The discharge flow coefficient of nozzle orifice was changed from the standard orifice having the flow coefficient of 0.72 to the high flow one having 1.06 by applying the extruding technique. The change in smoke due to orifice discharge flow coefficient was compared with the effect of nozzle orifice size on smoke. As results, it is found that smoke density shows the minimum at the flow coefficient of 0.92∿0.97 in both low and high loads due to the minimum fuel droplet size.
