Yasunari Kawabata's novel “The Father Who Stole the Stars” is a short story adapted from the play “Liliom” by the Hungarian writer Ferenc Molnar (1878-1952). It is an unpublished work of Kawabata that was released in recent years. In this paper, I first introduced the original work of “Liliom” and “Swan” by Zentaro Suzuki. Then, I compared Glazer's English translation, Suzuki's translation, and Kawabata's adaptation, and then considering the characteristics of Suzuki's translation and the relationship between Suzuki's translation and Kawabata's adaptation. Secondly, I speculated from the copyright law at that time about the reason why “The Father Who Stole the Stars” was not published. Finally, I would like to analyze it through the keyword of “family love” in relation to Kawabata's novels from the same time as “The Father Who Stole the Stars”.
