This paper examines the experiences of Hawaii-born Japanese American, Wally Yonamine, who is the first foreigner in the Japanese professional baseball league after World War II. In particular, by considering how the practice of mimesis through baseball or yakyu has affected his identities, the realities that cannot be understood by the concepts of both assimilation and cultural pluralism are demonstrated.
