In order to investigate when and how the differences of mouse urinary marking patterns appear in puberty stage, we observed the marking behavior of five classes of mice classified according to sex and conditions of rearing after weaning, at various stages from weaning (13 days of age) to maturation (71 days of age). The total amount of deposited urine increased gradually as the mice grew and fell after maturation, but the grouped females ceased to mark the field from an early stage. In copulated males, the number of urine marks increased and the size decreased during puberty. The increase in urine number of isolated males and that of grouped males were not so much as copulated males, and that of copulated female didn't increase. Counter marking was revealed from puberty to urine spot of females by both males and females except grouped females which ceased urine mark at early stage. Thus, the typical urinary marking pattern peculiar to their sex were revealed in puberty in copulated males and females that seemed to be developed normally. This result confirmed that these mouse urinary marking patterns were controlled by sex hormones.
