Description
In crime victim support, the support staff grasp the details of crimes and work on support. These activities have a significant impact on the supporters, as they are continuously exposed to crime, not directly but indirectly. This paper focuses on the secondary traumatization suffered by supporters, and presents the concepts of vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress, burn out, and compassion fatigue, and reviews previous research on the secondary traumatization in Japan. There has been little research on secondary traumatization among supporters in crime victim support. In order to expand the support for victims and provide more extensive support, it was suggested that there is a need for research on understanding the actual situation of secondary traumatization to supporters and how to deal with them.
