Description

A quarter of a century has passed since the first Computer Shogi Championship was held. The strength of the top computer shogi programs that entered the last World Computer Shogi Championship is the same as the strength of the top human players. In this paper, there will be a brief history of computer shogi, including the history of before the first Computer Shogi Championship, an overview of the (World) Computer Shogi Championship, and discussion of some of the remarkable programs (algorithms) that have been involved, together with a brief history of human-computer matches.
