母語話者は，どうして非母語話者の英語が母語話者によるものではないと分かるのであろうか。前者に見られる「不自然さ」とは何か。本研究の目的は，談話分析の観点からmetadiscourse markersを説明変数とし，判別分析と変数増減法を用いて，母語話者の英作文と非母語話者の英作文を分類し，2つの群を識別する特徴を抽出することにある。

Why do native speakers (NS) often know English writings written by non-native speakers (NNS) from those written by themselves? What is the "unnaturalness" found in the former? The purpose of this paper is to extract characteristics of English argumentative essays written by Japanese EFL learners. The method is based on discriminant analysis using the frequencies of metadiscourse markers, and stepwise forward regression.
