The remarkable characteristic of the double account system is the subdivision of the usual balance sheet into a capital account and a revenue account. It was London and Birmingham railway company to use the system in the first place in railway companies, and the system come into use wide in railway companies and introduced in the regulation of railways act 1868. It is the purpose of this paper to explain why the regulation of railways act which introduced Double Account System was enacted in 1868.
