This article investigates the relationship of social work in healthcare centers around 1950 with education in social work. The main duties of social workers in healthcare centers at that time were cooperation with other organizations and supply of commodities. These duties were unavoidable under the existing conditions. Social workers in the healthcare centers negatively evaluated their conditions as providing little opportunity for “personality growth”. Such “personality growth” is one of the purposes of social work emphasized in education. This social work education is likely to have led to the negative evaluation of social workers with regard to their work in the healthcare centers.
