Abstract

In recent years, follow-up systems for pediatric health examinations have been developed, whereas the support system is not sufficient for children with learning disabilities. The purpose of this study was to clarify what kind of support is offered now, and what kind of supports will be called for in Mihara City and the surrounding areas. A questionnaire was completed by parents and professionals attending a lecture meeting "targeted at the basic understanding of children with LD or ADHD who require special support". The lecture meeting was held by the study group of developmental disorders in the Hiroshima Prefectural College of Health Sciences. Replies were obtained from 232 persons (50.3%). The questionnaire data showed that families and professionals are concerned that the support for children with problems of attention and behavior as well as learning difficulties is inadequate. It is important that the medical staff concerned cooperate with educational and social welfare professionals, from when the child is a baby until junior high school.
