Abstract

This paper will discuss the career path of female supervisors and the experiences required for promotion, based on a survey of 28 female supervisors at production sites of manufacturing companies. According to the findings, while a certain commonality was found of career path to supervisory positions, some differences was observed between the case of labor-intensive workplaces and its skill-building counterpart. Additionally, the findings revealed that supervisors who were promoted late have gained necessary experience through assignments to various positions over a longer period of time, being promoted to supervisory positions in accordance with companies' policies. On the other hand, those who were promoted early have developed necessary elements through deliberate efforts and intentions of their superiors, realizing it in a much shorter period.
