Abstract

We conducted and evaluated a leadership training program tailored to the needs of leaders who help the development of new term public health nurses. The achievement of five objectives was quantitatively assessed (using a 4-point scale) followed by a qualitative analysis of the participants’ learning experiences through free-text responses. The training was conducted in two sessions, with 41 and 25 participants, respectively. The response rate was 100% for both sessions. The achievement status for each objective (accomplished/partially accomplished) ranged from 87.8% to 97.6% in the first session, and was 100.0% for three and 96.0% for two objectives in the second session. Regarding the participants’ learning experiences, the first session resulted in eight categories, including “Sense of security through sharing thoughts and concerns” and “Leader’s clarification of personal challenges and motivation for improvement.” The second session generated seven categories, such as“ Intention to practice activities contributing to personal growth.” The training program suggested that it could address leaders’ questions and concerns, raise awareness of improving their practical skills, and contribute to their intention to engage in practical activities, including raising issues related to personnel development within their organization.
