Abstract

Research on school social workers is progressing, but is there progress in research on school social workers targeting high school students. High school has a different educational system from elementary and junior high schools, which are compulsory education, and has systems such as detention in the first grade and repeating a grade. Furthermore, even in high schools, there are students who suffer from bullying, refusal to attend school, child abuse, mental disorders, and other maladjustment. This study was conducted on school social workers who support high school students, and we attempted to conduct a literature survey in Japan with the aim of using it as a basic data to support high school students with problems such as school maladjustment. The results showed that the number of literature on school social workers who support high school students was small, and that the study was still in its developmental stage. On the other hand, the continuing shortage of school social workers in upper secondary schools makes it difficult to respond to high school students and families with school maladjustment, and regional disparities are likely to occur.
