Description

The habitat status of Cryptotympana facialis (Walker, 1858) in Toyama Prefecture has been investigated. A review of various records shows that this species has been confirmed at a total of 16 sites in Toyama since the 1930s. The records were concentrated in coastal areas, where it is said that introduced species from outside the prefecture are often found, and on the plains, where there is a lot of logistics activity. Most of the records were of one or two adult males that were seen only once. Therefore, it was considered that there were no established sites within Toyama, and only dispersed individuals from distant areas or human introductions were often found. In Tsubame-no, Toyama City, cicada shells were found for the first time in Toyama Prefecture. Since this is a green area with many planted trees, it is thought that the eggs or larvae were artificially introduced along with the planted trees. Continued surveys will be required to determine if they will persist.
