Description
This study reviews about the measurement of critical thinking disposition and abilities. Various definitions have been used in past studies. As a result of the establishment of these definitions, critical thinking concepts have been classified: as "narrow sense", "wide sense", and "extension". Accordingly, the tasks used to measure critical thinking have been classified into the three groups. However, the actual structure of critical thinking has remained unknown. It has been said that performing critical thinking requires two components. These are the disposition to and the ability of critical thinking. Disposition has been measured by using questionnaires. Ability has also been measured with tests. These scores have been correlated with those of critical thinking tasks. Therefore, it can be said that these two components affect the performance of critical thinking. However, their functions have not been clarified. When we consider the education for critical thinking, it is necessary to examine the structure and function of disposition and ability in future studies.
