Abstract

A major earthquake(Mj 6.9, 37°13.2'N, 136°41.1'E, Depth 11km) occurred on March, 25, 2007, at 9:42.PM (localtime)near Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The JMA seismic intensity of 6+ was recorded in Wajima city, Nanao city, and A major earthquake (Mj 6.9, 37 °13. 2'N, 136°41.1'E, Depth 11km) occurred on March, 25, 2007, at 9:42PM (local time) near Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The JMA seismic intensity of 6+ was recorded in Wajima city, Nanao city, and Anamizu-Machi. One person was killed, more than 318 were injured. The number of totally collapsed houses were nearly 600, and partially collapsed houses exceeded 1, 200 (as of May 9, 2007). Strong shaking triggered damage of lifeline systems, road embankments, settlements and tilting of port facility, and slope failures of cliffs near the sea. This paper mainly reports characteristics of strong shaking, and damage on roads and port facility.
