Abstract
There are two residence halls at Ochanomizu University: "Koishikawa Hall, " which is mainly for graduate students, and "International House, " for undergraduate and international students. In 2011, a new residence hall, "Ochanomizu University Students Community Commons (Ochanomizu University SCC), " opened for first and second year students. Ochanomizu University SCC is a residence hall equipped with an educational function to embody the policy "live together and grow together." It offers students a range of educational support services, including a student support program and a residence hall advisor. These support programs aim to give students the wherewithal to grow together in a spirit of co-existence and mutual support. As to the effects of this initiative, it is still in its trial stage. We therefore report here on the Ochanomizu University SCC initiative and its effects, by presenting case studies and survey results.
