This study aims to analyze the economic system of forest exploitation in North Manchuriya before 1931, as a part of the study of forest exploitation system in all the Manchuriya. Russia began to build the Chinese Eastern Railway across Manchuriya in 1897 and to exploit forests on the railways by Russiam capitals. Before 1920 almost of the wood harvested from the forests were consumed as various materials and fuelwood for the railways. But after 1920 the woods began to be sold to the market of South Manchuriya, and they grabbed the largest market share there in place of wood from Ouryokuko area in South Manchuriya. The econnomic strength of the wood from North Manchuriya lay in the economic support for logging and distributing of them by Chinese Eastern Railway Company.
