This study was performed to explain the author's duties as an educational researcher in a case of school reform and to describe two issues that arose in the author's relation to the school. In this case, the educational researcher was the practitioner of school reform, together with a colleague at the same school, under the direction of the principal. The author applied knowledge as an educational researcher in voluntary educational practices that were not part of the part-time teaching duties. At the principal's request, the author joined the school reform team as an educational researcher and was assigned duties of planning educational practices such as curriculum and instructional research. However, continuing the reform activities raises concerns. First, the activity of school reform depends on the author's special knowledge and time, and second, there is the possibility of the loss of certain cultural characteristics due to the influence of the author, who is an outsider. Therefore, the author must share the duties of school reform with other teachers at the school and must observe and study the changes in the school community under reform.
