Abstract

This article discusses why hypotheses regarding interpretation of the Anxiety Index could be formed, which has been used in the Rorschach method. In the Rorschach method, many people feel anxiety when they see the figure because it is ambiguous. That is, the Rorschach method shows that it is possible to examine how defense does or does not work against anxiety felt by people in the test. Particularly, according to the Anxiety Index in the category of Affective Symbolism, Nagoya University Edition, it is suggested that by reflecting the affective value that has not yet been scored in the Rorschach method, it is possible to analyze the defense mechanism against anxiety of the test subject. Although there are various levels and meanings in the expression of anxiety in the Rorschach method, it is necessary to consider relations with other scores and other test batteries when interpreting the score.
