The information which 157 seventh-grade students received in the transition to junior high school was examined. The information clusters were mainly based on information sources, such as brothers and/or sisters (or junior high school students in the neighborhood), friends who have elder brothers and/or sisters, parents, and primary school teachers. Subjects who had elder brothers and/or sisters got more both positive and negative information from brothers and/or sisters (or junior high school students in the neighborhood) than those without any elder siblings. These findings suggest that elder siblings may be "anchor persons" in students' adaptation to junior high school. Seventh graders who had received more information wanted to have more orientation programs in order to get information about junior high school than those with less information.
