Abstract
type:article
According to M. Polanyi, "our message had left something behind that we could not tell, and its reception must rely on it that the person addressed will discover that which we have not been able to communicate."1) The explanation of his statement can be found in the structure of metaphors because they provide us with a partial understanding of things ; in other words, they hide other aspects of the concepts. Metaphors help us understand the surrounding world and a language is metaphorical by its very nature. This paper discusses the relationship between the structure of metaphors and the tacit knowledge from a cognitive linguistic viewpoint.
