This paper is to describe about the geochemical cycle of uranium in the bed rock, the Cenozoic strata and groundwater. Uraium contained in granite is easily oxided and dissolved into circulating water. Therefore, groundwater contains uranium of 1 to 2 ppb at Jigokudani and Tawara basins, the eastern part of Nara City where the Pliocene rests on granite. Then, at the southern alluvial plain of the city, the uranium contents of groundwater being almost 2 ppb at the east granite zone gradually decrease to be less than 1 ppb as groundwater moves to west downstream. The Cenozoic strata around granite such as Jigokudani and Saho formations contain uranium of less than 2 ppm by absorption from circulating water. The capturing behaviors of clay, humus and limonite which construct every stratum seem to be concordant with those examined in laboratory.
