Description

The present paper tries to examine the meaning of "critique" or of "being critical" in terms of "research critique" in nursing and nursing education. First, we overview major nursing text books regarding their evaluation of research papers and their description of how to read papers critically. Then, we raise a question in relation to the manner of "research critique" in order to object to the evaluation solely by checklists. Moreover, we clarify the meaning of "critique" in dictionaries, its usage in nursing education, and its definition in pedagogy and philosophy. As a consequence, we define "critique" as an attitude to understand objects as a whole from every aspect and select things good and useful instead of finding but their faults.
