抄録

A prominent characteristic of the Japanese mentality is the tendency to assimilate with nature. We examine this tendency in Japanese literature, from Kojiki to contemporary novels, in various genres-myth, story, essay, haiku- and demonstrate aspects of interchange, exchange, and unification between human beings and nature (animals, plants, mountains, rivers, etc.).

日本人に特徴的な自他一体的あるいは自他相関的な心性のありかたが自然との関係においてはどのようにあらわれてくるか、古事記から現代小説にいたるまでの種々のジャンル-神話、物語、随筆、俳句、小説など-の文学作品をとりあげて検討し、そこに、人間と自然(動植物などの生物から山や川などの無生物まで)の交流、等価交換、一体化等の顕著な特質が見られることを指摘した。
