This essay presents a compact perspective for deepening our understanding of the issues of\n“liberty”and “equality”in the controlled and surveillance society. After looking briefly at the\nconceptual history of“liberty”and “equality,”the argument explores how grievous infringements\nof liberty and equality are not necessarily confined to what is called totalitarian societies,but that\nthey may well even emerge in democracies.Finally,a few points are suggested for the more likely\nrealization of liberty and equality in the future
