This article deals with - 'predicates which take certain subordinate clauses,' -especially some predicates that mean feelings in Japanese. These predicates were identified through anexamination of the Chinese-Japanese bilingual corpus and the Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese. As a result, the following points were; (1) The group of predicates discussed in the article have a required structural condition and a required semantic condition. Structural conditions: Subordinate clause must more than level B (cf. Minami,1974). Semantic conditions: Subordinate clause must express a causal relationship, such as a cause and a reason, conditions, and time. (2) For 'predicates which take certain subordinate clauses,' their distribution is related to mental state for example, psycho-logical verbs, adjectives of feeling and expressions of evaluation. (3) These predicates can be divided into 5 groups; verbs of temporary emotions, verbs of active emotions, adjectives of direct emotions, adjectives of evaluation, and nouns of evaluation. These predicate groups each take different subordinate clauses. Finally, this result shows that - these predicates exhibit the structure of 'topic-comment,' and constitute of 'Property predication (cf. Masuoka,2008)-.' A finding which supports the classification of Japanese language as a- 'Topic Prominent Language (cf. Li and Thompson, 1976)-' in the typology of languages.
