Elderly people with dementia living in their own homes are moved to nursing homes if they need support on a round-the-clock basis. In 2006, small community-based agencies started providing services of a new type under the Public Nursing Care Insurance Law. Some of these multi-service agencies affiliate with group homes for the elderly people with dementia. Such affiliation benefits elderly people with dementia to prevent harm from relocation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the facts of the service provision and to define the factors enabling elderly people with dementia living in the group homes affiliated with small community-based agencies(aging-in-place).Twenty managers of these group homes cooperated through semi-structured interviews. Items extracted from the interview data were qualitatively analyzed according to the similarity of meaning. The items were further categorized into 4 categories by analyzing the quantitative data gathered from 102 agencies. To assist elderly people with dementia to age-in-place at group homes, 2 factors should be satisfied:(1)making use of affiliation benefits, developing the collaboration system with medical care;(2)supporting care staff so they can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to provide end-of-life care.
