Okinawa Museum of Oceanic Culture has been a "lonely" museum. It has failed to capture public's attention after the Okinawa Oceanic Expo. Although many factors can be attributed, this paper focuses on its unwittingly de-political attribution of the "preColombian," or "pre-Cook" history to the oceanic culture in the Pacific. This de-political attribution has permits non-problematic association of images between "Ocean" and "Okinawa" to perpetuate after the Expo, thereby reinforcing the assymetrical and hegemonic formation/relationship between the nation-state, Japan, and Okinawa. This paper attempts to criticize that relationship through analyzing the representational burden attached to the image of "Ocean" at the museum. In the end, this paper points out that this museum still retains a possibility to derail its colonial facet in such a way that it truly attunes to the flow of people, multitude.
