Description

After the World War I, the international community worked for lasting peace through the League of Nations and multilateral treaties. Especially, in 1928, the General Treaty for Renunciation of War as an Instrument of National Policy (the Kellogg-Briand Pact) was concluded as the result of consultation between the United States and France, and many countries signed this treaty. This paper describes its background from the perspective of French foreign policy, based on primary materials and preceding studies. Consequently, it has been revealed that the Kellogg-Briand Pact was concluded not only influenced by utopian idealism, but also through the pragmatic process of negotiations.
