Description

Translation studies are a relatively new academic discipline. To help it develop further I wish to contribute a piece of fundamental data. In this paper, I explore the figurative expressions in Kaze no Uta wo Kike by Haruki Murakami by focusing on the usage of“youni”in Japanese. Throughout this exploration, I examine how the sentences that include“youni”are translated into English. By looking carefully at these instances, the effect of domestication is also considered. I contend that the effect of domestication exists even in this kind of work with great influence from American literature.
