今日、先進諸国の都市では、新しい創造的な諸活動の受け皿として、近代以降の産業遺産を活用した都市政策が展開されている。一方、先進国の近代化の過程には、戦争や民族紛争、奴隷貿易、強制労働などの負の文化遺産も同時に存在する。本論考では、英国、ドイツ、とりわけアイルランドにおいて、負の文化遺産にも正面から真摯に取り組み、新しい都市や地域の発展に結び付けようという試みについての事例を取り上げている。(文化政策研究科長研究委2011 による調査報告/根本担当分を含む )

Today, within urban policies in developed countries, a modern industrial heritage is utilized as incubators of new creative activities.On the other hand, in the process of modernization, there are also negative cultural heritage like war, ethnic conflict, the slave trade andforced labor. This paper picked up some cases in the UK, Germany, and especially in Ireland, in which we can observe pioneer attempts ofconfronting negative heritages as well as positive ones, and bravely linking both to the development of new cities and regions.
